A little bit of fun running a VHS copy of Star Trek: Genereations through a Tachyons+ Psychenizer and then back through Paracosm’s Lumen video synthesizer application.

Hi everyone, as some of you know awhile back I was invited to beta test Vimeo’s new 360 VR playback capabilities and today they have finally made the feature public. Over the years I have always preferred Vimeo over other platforms both for it’s playback quality and other features that have proven more accommodating to my technically and aesthetically unusual work so I’m extremely excited that they are now offering this capability.

A surreal trip down memory lane in tribute to Timothy Leary and his signature libation. Music was produced by MediaThief during an online Facebook live session with the subsequent recording used as the basis for the video mix performed by Mike Celona live in the studio a few days later.

Introducing the first in what will be an ongoing series of audio/visual mixes in which I handle both halves of the sensory equation myself.  This past summer I felt that the time was right for me to start learning how to DJ as a way  of better coupling my live video art with the kinds of sounds that move me and in my opinion, best suit the images.   While some of you might recall my posting a couple of relatively low-key preliminary attempts at this over the past few months, I felt that this piece was the first one in which my audio mixing had approached some degree of proficiency, which is why I’m letting it kick off the Cinematheque series.  My goal is to eventually be able to juggle both audio and visual mixing simultaneously live and if this piece is any indication I look forward to a fun journey ahead!

I rather liked this one so I thought I’d post it even though it’s short.

An experimental abstract piece cultivated from three different live production sessions in which synthesized video images produced with Paracosm’s Lumen software were transferred to VHS tape, remixed through a circuit-bent Tachyons+ analog video processor and then subsequently reremixed back into a computer using Arkaos GrandVJ software. The title alludes to the signals going back and forth between digital and analog manipulations before arriving at the final composition as well as the solar/planetary images that emerge from the abstractions.
